  • KARAT is a golden installation made by Francesco Bernabei (Italy) and Magnus Gustafsson (Sweden) in Abrantes.

After being selected in the 180 Creative Camp Open Call for Projects (a contest promoted by ArchDaily, Canal180 and the Municipality of Abrantes) Francesco and Magnus started building this sculpture in Florence, Italy, and drove for 26 hours to get to Abrantes, sleeping only 3 hours. This is the result.

Olaf Breuning is present! This Swiss-born artist who lives in NYC came out to Portugal this week to attend 180 Creative Camp. Yesterday, he grabbed a couple of participants and took them to a pre-scouted location from where the power-plant nearby Abrantes is well visible.

Olaf creates photographs, films, sculptures, and installations that draw heavily from popular culture and a collective visual iconography. The divergent impulses collide, often with absurd and hilarious results, as Breuning exploits the thin line between humor and pain. Here in Portugal, he photographs a piece called “The Protesters” in front of a power-plant backdrop.

As we spend time with Olaf we noticed how well he takes care of everyone around him and the people he work with. Olaf is a very carrier-driven artist and had many successes already, but he still feels the need to grow further. He’s also planning for a family and I’m sure he would be a lovely father.
